Second, preach and teach these things. Master the content of the biblical story and worldview and make it your next sermon series. Teach these things to your church staff, to your elders and deacons. There is little more important for pastors and ministers to do than to build into the lives of their leaders by teaching them the whole counsel of God and inspiring them to put what they learn into practice in every area of life. This just might transform your congregation! Third, pray diligently. Ask God to show you and your congregation what you need to know and do about this matter of recovering the whole Christian story, of reclaiming the church’s comprehensive view of life. Pray for His leadership and guidance in how this might make a difference in your church, in your preaching and teaching, in your ministry, in the lives of your people. Fourth, recognize that Satan will oppose you. If there is anything that the devil and his demons don’t want, it is for our churches to recover their true story, to recover a holistic, comprehensive world and life view as the basis and framework of the churches’ life and ministries. So be on your guard against attack and temptation. Fifth, figure out creative ways to help believers in your church implement biblical thinking and living in their homes, neighborhoods, work places, schools, communities, and so on. There ought to be a vision of social and cultural transformation that grows out of the biblical story and worldview that is revolutionary. Cultural engagement is the church’s mandate from a biblical point of view, to be the agency of the kingdom of God and its righteousness in the whole of life under the Lordship of Christ. We do this humbly, not dictatorially, using gospel methods of service and sacrifice and suffering, if God calls us to it. The have the message, indeed, the Savior, who is the light of the world. We dare not put Him or His light under a basket. |
